Entering a new year is always a fresh experience – and this year is no different. While we look ahead towards new projects, we also take a moment to look back... back to 1988.

Kids Corner was the phoenix that rose from the ashes of "Kids America", a national show that Kathy O'Connell co-hosted and that WXPN had just started to carry in the fall of 1987. By Christmas Eve the national show ended and WXPN was left with a hole in its programming schedule. Management stepped up and made the commitment to the voice of kids throughout our region and Kids Corner began January 4, 1988.

As we enter 2008, we are proud to celebrate twenty years of Kids Corner! Generations of kids have grown up with Kathy and now, with kids of their own, have allowed a new generation of young ears delight in the quirky unique sound that is the music of Kids Corner.

To celebrate this incredible milestone, WXPN has produced the Kids Corner 20th Anniversary Celebration CD. Within the 21 tracks featured are such classics as "My Name Is Joe", "The Cheese Song ", "Teach Me Your Magic" and more (check out the track listing below)... easily this celebration disc captures the "Kids Corner Sound" and is quite the collectible; a limited number will be printed and made available exclusively through XPN Member Services beginning in February 2008.

Once we're sold out, we are sold out!

So, take a moment and spread the joy of Kids Corner with the kids in your world! Consider a membership (or a renewal) and pick up the 20th Anniversary Celebration CD and be sure to join us throughout the year for the Kids Corner 20th Anniversary celebration!

Kathy offers her thoughts on each track!

1. Soupy Sales - Nothing to Do Today (But Have Fun)
Watching Soupy Sales on TV made me what I am today. This song is the philosophy of life I learned from my father. My dog is named after Soupy Sales. So is my career.
ListenListen

2. Bubboon's Tunes - The Cheese Song
All-time Kids Corner hit with a surprise educational message - it teaches you how to make cheese! Bubboon & Bubbles are silly jesters blending comedy and music.
ListenListen

3. The Candy Band - Simon Says
Punk rock moms from Detroit with candy bar names. You can't help moving when they sing, but wait until Simon Says!
ListenListen

4. Captain Bogg & Salty - Scurvy
The great rocking pirate band with another surprisingly educational song! These pirates teach what to do if scurvy strikes (hint: eat a lime).
ListenListen

5. Skip Denenberg - Teach Me Your Magic
This "wild about Harry Potter" song expresses every Rowling fan's dream - to learn magic like Harry. Skip is a Philly musical legend who knows baseball's Phillie Phanatic personally.
ListenListen

6. Ernie & Neal - Mac & Cheese
They're the dual toasts of New Jersey I met on the streets of South Philly. A pair of lifelong friends who rock out. This is a love song to my favorite food duo.
ListenListen

7. John Flynn - A Manatee Sneezed on Me
A true story about John's son Cole on vacation. Cole survived the sneeze. The song survived the vacation.
ListenListen

8. John Hadfield - Robot Monkey Head
This dog loving, science sharing musician sings about his ideal glow-in-the-dark companion.
ListenListen

9. Terri Hendrix - Nerves
It's hard to follow "be nice" rules when people get on your nerves. Terri starts sweetly and finishes rockin'.
ListenListen

10. Sara Hickman - Radiation Man
This is a science fiction movie in song. What do you get when "Radiation Man" lands? Crispy critters!
ListenListen

11. Billy Jonas - What Kind of Cat Are You?
Every time Billy asks the title question of this song, I yell "KAThy!" Be glad you're not there. Billy makes music with objects other folks toss out.
ListenListen

12. Milkshake - Bowling with You
Lisa and Mikel sound fun and look beautiful. Lisa's tutu looks great with bowling shoes. It STRIKES us that we should not SPARE you this song (sorry).
ListenListen

13. Miss Amy - I Wanna Know How It Works!!
Rocker Miss Amy blends natural scientific curiosity with natural musical talent in this title song from her album.
ListenListen

14. Anna Moo - Bob Along
Grownups love this song because Anna's Bob Dylan impression is so good. Kids love this song because they're used to bobbing along when they don't know what adults are saying.
ListenListen

15. Pencilhead & The Playground Punks - Catboy
The tale of a teeny tiny kid who rides cats like they're horses. Please don't try this at home. These folks are professionals.
ListenListen

16. Steve Pullara - Lotsa Cousins
Steve inherited his family's musical talent along with his sense of fun and pride in his Italian heritage. Imagine remembering all those cousins' names! That's Grandma's job.
ListenListen

17. Justin Roberts - Meltdown
Justin understands meltdowns because he was the youngest kid. I love this song because he understands that Moms have meltdowns, too.
ListenListen

18. Audra Rox - Short Attention Span
Audra Rox because she does. Part of being a little kid is that you can't always pay attention very well. This song is a reminder.
ListenListen

19. Trout Fishing In America - The Window
Hearing this song for the first time changed my life because it introduced me to my favorite band who became my best friends. I wanted to name my dog "Keizra" after Keith & Ezra, but cooler heads prevailed.
ListenListen

20. Two Of A Kind - Harriet the Spy
David & Jenny understand the importance of reading in kids' lives. This song celebrates a favorite literary heroine with rock and wit.
ListenListen

21. Bill Wellington - My Name Is Joe
The rhythmic lesson of this song is: when the boss asks "are you busy," save time by answering YESSSSSS!!!! right away.
